| Since the flooding in Pakistan began in late July 2010, approximately 20 million people have been displaced, with at least 4 million homeless. It was reported that an area larger than England has been submerged in water, in what United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has called a bigger global disaster than tragedies such as the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami and the 2010 Haiti Earthquake. Three of Pakistan’s four provinces have been affected, beginning with Frontier province in the northwest, Punjab province in the northeast, and finally Sindh province in the southeast. Approximately 140,000 Pakistani villages have been wiped out. |
